Steph Houghton believes Sunday’s WSL game at home to West Ham is the start of a significant period for the Club.

After the visit of the Hammers, Nick Cushing’s side travel to Everton in the Women’s League Cup, before next Sunday’s WSL game at Bristol City.

After a difficult period that saw us fail to win in four games and exit the Champions League, a win last time out against Birmingham saw a return to form – and Houghton says it’s time to kick on again.

“It’s important to know what we’re about as players,” Houghton said. “There’s nothing too serious to need to fix. We’ve worked hard in training and done all the work behind the scenes.

“As players we have to take responsibility because some of our performances haven’t been good enough.

“There’s a long way to go - we’re gutted about the Champions League but this is a big week for this club.

“Two big league games and one in the Conti Cup but we’re used to this pressure - used to people wanting us to do bad but we’re motivated by that and excited for Sunday.”
