Happy birthday, Paulo Wanchope!

The Costa Rican striker, who spent four seasons at City, turns 46 today and is still highly-regarded by all who watched him play.

The forward, who signed from West Ham in the summer of 2000 as Joe Royle prepared for life back in the Premier League, went on to play 70 times for the Club scoring 27 goals.

He was a mercurial talent, a player capable of producing moments of improvised magic.

He sat down with CityTV to discuss his time in English football, his love of Maine Road and how he wishes he could have played more games in City blue.

“When I heard City had an interest, I didn’t have a doubt I wanted to come over here because I knew they were going to make a great squad,” Wanchope recalled.

“At Maine Road, the atmosphere there was great. When we moved into the new stadium, we were thinking will it be the same or not. It was exactly the same.

“That’s the magic of the people.”
