Pep Guardiola believes Eric Garcia is moving closer to establishing himself as Premier League player.

The 18-year-old defender made his league debut against Watford in December and played the entire 90 minutes in City’s Carabao Cup wins over Preston North End and Southampton.

And Guardiola has been particularly impressed with his assured displays in the senior set up.

“Right now, Phil Foden is ready,” said the boss ahead of Saturday’s game against the Saints.

“Eric Garcia is closer because every time he plays at an incredibly high level. He doesn’t make mistakes.

“The other young players have to work and work and work.”

Guardiola also revealed that aside from the long-term injured duo of Aymeric Laporte and Leroy Sane, he has a clean bill of health in his squad for Southampton’s second trip to the Etihad this week.
