Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola is under no illusions about the threats Atalanta could pose in Tuesday’s Champions League showdown under the Etihad lights.

Matchday three sees us take on the Italians for the first time in our history, and we will be hoping to continue our 100% European record in Group C in the process.

But Guardiola insists a third win in three Champions League games is not a foregone conclusion: “Both teams are very brave and will try to impose their game, we will have to adapt to a certain extent and they will have to do the same.

“I hope it will be an open match, Atalanta score a lot but they sometimes concede, we do the same, it will be a lively match.”

Atalanta have defied the odds under manager Gian Piero Gasperini, qualifying for the Champions League for the very first time last season.

And while they have never faced each other before, Guardiola revealed his admiration towards La Dea and their playing style under the Italian.

“It’s a great joy to watch his team play, they’re brave, they respect their supporters.

“The way they play is quite unusual, they take quite a few risks and I’m sure they’ll play that way.”

But Gasperini wasn’t the only manager receiving plaudits, with Joao Cancelo heaping praise on his boss ahead of tomorrow’s game.

“For me as I said he’s the best manager in football today,” the versatile Portuguese defender said of Guardiola.

“I can here to learn from him and I think that when I play for him, I always learn something.”
