Pep Guardiola said Kyle Walker remains an outstanding player as he called on him to embrace the challenge of winning back his place in the England squad.
The City boss saluted the versatile talents of his right-back, who has been left out by Gareth Southgate for the second time.
“Kyle Walker can do everything,” said Guardiola ahead of the visit of Wolves.
“But the opinion of the national team manager is there. He made his selection and decides the last two times.
“Kyle respects it, I respect it. It’s a big challenge for Kyle to show him how good he is. He remains an incredible full-back.”
City welcome a Wolves side who have only won one league game this season on Sunday, but Guardiola expressed his belief that Nuno Espirito Santo’s side will improve once they have adjusted to the demands of balancing the Europa League with their domestic campaign.
“Nuno knows better than me,” he added.
“Sometimes you need a little bit of time. Yesterday they got an incredible result. I saw the game, they were so solid which I expected.
“It’s a big squad and they know what they have to do.”
