Pep Guardiola expressed his admiration for Roy Hodgson’s managerial longevity as he prepares to face the 72-year-old at Selhurst Park this weekend.

The Crystal Palace boss’ coaching career spans more than 40 years and though Guardiola admits he has no intention of managing until a similar age, he says it is brilliant to see Hodgson still harbouring such a love for the game.

“Of course I admire him,” he said at Friday’s pre-match press conference.

“He likes it and if he is still there, it’s because he has the patience and love. It’s incredible.

“You have to have a lot of energy every day and he does that.”

City will be aiming to get back to winning ways on our return to Premier League action and Guardiola also revealed which of his recently injured players is in contention for Saturday.
