Ilkay Gundogan hailed Manchester City’s Carabao Cup final hat-trick, after the defending champions beat Manchester United to seal a third consecutive appearance in the showpiece game.

City lost the second leg 1-0 after Nemanja Matic struck for the Reds, but progressed with a 3-2 win thanks to a convincing victory at Old Trafford three weeks ago.

And the German midfield believes three successive League Cup finals is something we should be proud of.

“It’s another great possibility to win a trophy,” he said.

“Most people may think it’s not the greatest competition of all, but I don’t think like that. Great teams, great players, great personalities try to go for it all.

“To be in the final of that competition for a third time in the row is amazing and obviously we want to win.

“It’s a final. It’s Wembley. You always want to win there. It’s a historical stadium, where great things have happened in the past and also for us.”
