Pep Guardiola has heaped praise on Eric Garcia after the 18-year-old appeared in three-consecutive first-team matches.

With City enduring something of a centre-back crisis, the academy graduate has emerged as a key player during the festive period, producing assured displays against Wolves, Sheffield United and Everton.

He has now played nine times this term and Guardiola is impressed with what he’s seen.

“Last season he played in Carabao and was really good,” Guardiola said. “He is a guy who doesn’t make mistakes.

“He is so clever, he makes the right movements.

“It’s harder for him to play left side, I’m not a nice guy playing him there. He helped us in this period.

“Nico had problems, John is coming back. Eric helped us.”
