Pep Guardiola has expressed his delight at Manchester City’s 2-1 Premier League victory over Everton at the Etihad Stadium.
Guardiola’s men began 2020 in perfect fashion, with Gabriel Jesus netting twice in the second-half to earn all three points.
City began the game on the front foot and continued to apply the pressure until finally, Everton’s resistance was broken through Jesus’ quick brace. However, it was the overall performance that the boss was most impressed with.
“We played top,” said Guardiola. “I’m so delighted with the performance, as always.
“The game was there, and we played so good. It was a good victory for us.”
City thought they had taken an early lead through Phil Foden, who tapped in from close range but after a VAR review, the goal was disallowed for Riyad Mahrez straying offside in the build-up.
“I think it was offside. It was well applied,” continued Guardiola. “We have to continue playing.
“Even if it’s a goal, you have to continue. If it’s not a goal, you still have to continue, and we did that.”
