Pep Guardiola says City are relishing the prospect of Tuesday’s Carabao Cup semi-final first leg Manchester derby.

Reigning League Cup holders for the past two seasons, City will travel to Old Trafford looking to also maintain our perfect start to the New Year after a Premier League win over Everton and FA Cup triumph over Port Vale.

And quizzed at his pre-match press conference as to how he viewed the importance of the derby, given Liverpool’s emergence as league leaders this season, the City manager said he knew the enduring appeal of the fixture.

“The derby in Spain (when I was at Barcelona) was Espanyol and Madrid and here United are the derby. In England there are many top teams,” said the City manager.

“The other top teams are important, but I know exactly what the derby means to the fans.”
