The manager rates Foden very highly and he backed up his brilliant performance in the Premier League victory over Everton on New Year’s Day with another stellar display.
Many fans and pundits feel that Foden has what it takes to replace the departing David Silva, who is widely considered as one of the club’s best players in the Premier League era.
“If Phil can have David’s career, it will not be bad,” said Guardiola. “It’s better for Phil to be compared to an incredible player like David.
“His influence in the game is growing. He is playing at a high level, but David won league and World Cups with the national team.
“He’s played millions of games and got millions of assists,” continued Guardiola. “But for the age of Phil, the perspective is really good.”
