Pep Guardiola says City must maintain their high standards in order to compete for more trophies.

PEP: PREMIER LEAGUE FORM KEY TO OTHER SUCCESSES

The defending champions dropped further behind Liverpool over the weekend and have been unable to make any inroads on the gap to the leaders which now stands at 16 points.

But as City compete for the Carabao Cup, FA Cup and Champions League the boss says there can be no let up in the Premier League form over the next four months if further silverware is to be added to the Etihad Stadium trophy cabinet.

“Our aim now is to finish second and for knockout games and all other competitions always you have to have something inside to keep going,” said Pep.

“You cannot play when you’re not running well in PL so have to maintain high standards.

“We have to accept the situation. We can’t deny Liverpool are extraordinary in terms of football and results, but every day I live thinking about what we can do better.

“I have the same opinion. Some games are good, we concede few, but that is difficult to solve and. we have to improve.

“We scored more than Liverpool. I don’t have stats here, but we concede more chances and dropped points.

“Against Tottenham – they had two shots on target and they scored twice. When that happens it’s difficult and we have to improve in that area.”
