Phil Foden’s strike nine minutes from time rescued a point for Lee Carsley’s U18s against their Manchester United counterparts.

The young Blues were forced to come from behind twice in the local derby, with Brahim Diaz the other man on the scoresheet.

The result leaves City unbeaten at the top of the U18 Premier League North, one point ahead of their cross-city rivals, but with two games in hand.

United opened the scoring on the stroke of half time through Callum Gribbin.

In a second period which the Blues dominated, a combination of fleet-footedness and determination saw Diaz equalise, only for the home side to go ahead again through DJ Buffonge.

City weren’t done though and after Jadon Sancho weaved his way into the box and forced a good save from United’s ‘keeper, Foden reacted quickest to crash an equaliser into the roof of the net.
