Manchester City lost 1-0 to Girona in Catalonia as Pep Guardiola gave valuable game time to his players ahead of Monday’s visit of Everton.
Bernardo Silva and Claudio Bravo, both of whom were involved in this summer’s Confederations Cup in Russia, were handed starts after their extended summer breaks denied them a proper pre-season, and youngsters Brahim Diaz and Phil Foden were also given the nod after their fine performances in the US.
City went with three at the back again – Tosin Adarabioyo, John Stones and Eliaquim Mangala – with Danilo and Leroy Sane in wide areas.
Yaya Toure anchored the midfield with Foden and Bernardo just ahead of him, while Diaz and Raheem Sterling led the line.
