Manchester City suffered a first defeat of the season as the club’s incredible run of form finally came to an end away to Shakhtar Donetsk.

Pep Guardiola’s side, who had won 20 consecutive games ahead of kick-off, went down 2-1 in the club’s Champions League group finale on a bitterly cold night in Eastern Europe.

City were already assured of top spot in Group F ahead of kick-off and Pep opted to make seven changes from the team which beat West Ham last Sunday with one eye trained on Sunday’s Manchester derby.

The Ukrainian hosts scored twice in an impressive first-half showing but City produced a battling response after the break.

Substitute Sergio Aguero narrowed the arrears with a 90th minute penalty but Shakhtar held on to claim victory and ensure they join City in next Monday’s draw for the last 16.
