Nikita Parris’ 88th minute goal sent Manchester City Women through to the FA Cup semi-final with a 2-1 victory over Bristol City.

The forward was aided in her efforts by a deflection as she ensured Nick Cushing’s side’s cup run continued after Claire Emslie cancelled out City’s opener.

The Blues went ahead inside 10 minutes, when Steph Houghton’s header was turned into the net by a Bristol defender, but the opposition fought back to head in all square at the break.

That was thanks to forward, Emslie, who manoeuvred her way into the City area and fired past Marie Hourihan at the second attempt.

Cushing’s charges chased a winner throughout the second half, new signing Carli Lloyd twice going close before Parris popped up to keep the quest for a first FA Cup win on track.

City line-up: Hourihan; Bronze, Houghton, McManus, Stokes; Middag, Lloyd, Christiansen; Duggan, Parris, Stanway.
