They made it tough but in the end City were just too much.
Shakhtar made it difficult for City in the opening half of the match with resolute defending and solid attacking to keep City on their toes. However, Pep‘s team talk at half time changed everything that Shakhtar did well in the first 45 minutes as City were able to open the scoring within two minutes of restarting the match.
Kevin De Bruyne opened the scoring with a beautifully placed long-range shot from outside of the box that went flying in the top left corner of the Shakhtar goal.
Another late goal by Raheem Sterling sealed the deal as City went 2-0 with only two minutes left in the match.
City now sit comfortably in control of group F with a three point gap over second place Napoli who defeated Feyenoord 3-0 in Italy.
City arguably could have won the match by another one of our commonplace 5-0 wins as chances were missed that would have otherwise flew into the back of the net on a another day.
Napoli are next up for the boys in blue host the current Serie A league leaders on Tuesday October 17.
