Manchester City took a huge step towards reaching the Champions League quarter-finals after a superb 4-0 win away at FC Basel in their last 16 first leg tie.
Ilkay Gundogan scored twice with Bernardo Silva and Sergio Aguero also on target as Pep Guardiola’s men dominated from start to finish against the Swiss champions.
It was the perfect night for the Blues with Fabian Delph, David Silva and Leroy Sane all making a welcome return from injury and skipper Vincent Kompany in commanding form at the heart of the defence.
City also had to overcome freezing temperatures and a testing pitch but proved a class apart.
It leaves City in pole position to finish the tie in style in next month’s return leg at the Etihad and book their placed in the last eight.
