Watch extended highlights of City’s rampant 5-0 win over West Ham United on the opening day of the 2019/20 Premier League season.
Pep Guardiola’s side were spearheaded by Raheem Sterling whose hat-trick inspired victory and was aided by goals from Gabriel Jesus and Sergio Aguero.
It was a game the reigning champions dominated, though we were made to wait 25 minutes for our opening goal, a deft flick from Jesus after good combination play between Riyad Mahrez and Kyle Walker.
Kevin De Bruyne teed Sterling for the second, who later lifted the ball over Lukasz Fabianski to put City three goals to the good.
Ederson produced two excellent reflex saves to keep out Javier Hernandez and Manuel Lanzini from point-blank range, before Aguero fired home a penalty and Sterling completed the scoring.
It was a game in which VAR was significant.
Jesus had a strike chalked off for offside after Mike Dean consulted the video technology, while Aguero benefited and retook a missed penalty after replays showed Fabianski did not have his foot on the goal line.
