City’s Champions League campaign got up and running in fine style as we eased to a 3-0 victory over Shakhtar Donetsk in Group C.

Riyad Mahrez, Ilkay Gundogan and Gabriel Jesus got the goals in Kharkiv, where Pep Guardiola’s side produced a dominant performance to bounce back from the weekend defeat to Norwich City.

City were on top from start to finish and took the lead inside 30 minutes when Mahrez fired into an empty net after Gundogan had hit the post.

The German wouldn’t be denied, however, and he finished with aplomb after collecting Mahrez’ pass inside the area.

2-0 at half-time and the Premier League champions were cruising.

Shakhtar threatened on occasion but it remained relatively comfortable for City and Jesus eased any worries of a late fightback from the hosts as he raced onto Kevin De Bruyne’s through ball and calmly slotted home with 15 minutes remaining.
