To mark the end of 2022, the Club’s charity, City in the Community (CITC), is reflecting on a successful year.

CITC has moved with Manchester youth to empower healthier lives through football throughout the year.

Focusing on healthy people, healthy futures and healthy communities, CITC has been supporting lives in Manchester since 1986, with eighteen programmes placing physical and mental wellbeing at the core of everything the charity does.

Throughout the year, CITC has held sessions in community settings, schools, at the Etihad and City Football Academy, engaging people from aged two to 82.

When the charity’s reporting year ended on 31st August, City in the Community had delivered more than 22,000 sessions, across more than 26,000 hours, in 166 venues. (see more stats below)

CITC also held a number of successful fundraising events, including their first CITC Etihad Abseil back in July, which saw 90-year-old Margaret take part.

Head of Community, Michael Geary said: “2022 has been an unforgettable year for City in the Community – one in which we started a new strategy and committed ourselves to empowering healthier lives through football.

“Highlights for me personally have included; launching a new programme which supports inmates as they prepare to re-enter the working world, City Ready, watching Finlay build a kinship with Jack Grealish and supporting Manchester City Academy coach, Jamie Carr, as he takes on two lifechanging fundraising challenges.

“I would also like to take a moment to thank all the fans and our sponsors who have supported City in the Community over the last 12 months – we genuinely couldn’t do it without you and your support genuinely changes lives here in Manchester.”
