Manuel Akanji has expressed his eagerness to play more minutes alongside City's talented youngsters after our Community Shield victory over Manchester United.

Pep Guardiola provided starts for Academy stars Rico Lewis, Oscar Bobb, Nico O’Reilly and James McAtee, and provided 20-year-old new signing Savinho with some minutes from the bench at Wembley.

All five players showed promising glimpses, notably Bobb who provided the assist for the equaliser and McAtee who stuck the post in the first-half.

Akanji is excited to see what they can bring to the squad for the new season.

“I haven’t trained a lot with them this season, it’s just four days now.

“The others, I’ve seen more in America on the Tour. 

“I think they showed a great performance today, all of them, so I’m looking forward to a good season with them.”

The Swiss international also spoke about how he felt after our first game of the new season, and touched on his feelings during the tense penalty shootout.
