Nathan Ake said the City players always believed they could put a winning streak together before securing a third Premier League title in a row.

City won 12 matches in the Premier League ahead of lifting the trophy at the Etihad Stadium following the 1-0 victory over Chelsea.

Pep Guardiola’s side were eight points behind title rivals Arsenal as recently as April, but the Dutch defender says City started to put their best form together after returning from the World Cup.

“It’s an incredible feeling. It keeps feeling the same and we’re so happy and we have to enjoy it,” Ake said after collecting his winner’s medal.

“Maybe we didn’t perform at the highest level at the start of the season – it was a little bit up and down with some good results and bad results.

“But after the World Cup we really started to perform and click. [Arsenal] pushed us all the way but we’re happy in the end.

“We always said to each other we could do incredible runs like this. We had faith in each other that we could do it but you still have to do it and in the end we’re incredibly happy that we did and now we have to keep on going to the end.”
