Second-half goals from Antoine Semenyo and Rayan Cherki did the damage at St James’ Park in an impressive team display as we extended our unbeaten streak to 13 matches.
Youngsters Alleyne and Khusanov were paired at centre-back for the first time ever last week against Brighton and played a pivotal part in making City the only team to prevent the Magpies from scoring at home this season across all competitions.
When asked in his interview with City Studios after the game if he was proud of the clean sheet, Alleyne said:
“For sure, it’s my first one since coming back. I’m really proud of the team.
“I’ve really developed a bond with Khusanov, so It’s been really good playing with him. I’m looking forward to more.
“It wasn’t easy. I think I just find you have to concentrate on the football and try and remove any other distractions.
“They’re such a tough, physical team, it’s such a loud place. It’s a tough place to come but I really enjoyed it.”
Alleyne also showered praise on Semenyo after his perfect start to life at City and looked ahead to the second leg showdown next month.
