Julian Alvarez was left overjoyed after his second-half double inspired City to a 3-1 Champions League victory over Red Star Belgrade.

The visitors took the lead seconds before the interval, but Alvarez struck back instantly after the break, experly finishing from a tight angle.

The Argentine put us ahead on the hour mark as his curling free-kick brushed the knuckles of goalkeeper Omri Glazer and nestled into the corner of the net.

Rodrigo added a superb third to begin the defence of our European crown in perfect fashion.

“Yeah I’m more than happy to help the team,” said Alvarez.

“We created a lot of chances tonight. It wasn’t just Erling [Haaland] who couldn’t find the net.

“But, I’m very happy to help the team and keep going.

“We’re playing very well together. It helps that we’re winning and playing very well at the moment.

The forward also reflected on the overall performance of the team and provided a glowing assessment of the team’s new signings.
