Laporte reveals all in the latest documentary to come out of City Studios – Laporte ABC, which is out now.
The classy defender jetted into Manchester on Tuesday 30 January 2018 and walked through the doors of the Etihad Stadium to join City.
From there, he signed his contract in the company of sporting director Txiki Begiristain and manager Pep Guardiola.
As boss and player chatted immediately after he put pen to paper, Laporte admits that he was amazed by what came next.
He told City Studios: “He said ‘have you got the boots with you?’ And I said ‘no, I just arrived now, I don’t have the boots’.

“He said ‘in two hours we have to train’. I said ‘in the last two weeks I didn’t train and you’re asking me to train now in two hours and I have not my boots, we have to try and find a solution’.
“They came back with boots and I trained on the afternoon, two hours after I arrived here and, after the training session, he said to go up to his office.
“He asked me if I was prepared to play the game the day after.
“The day after was amazing, unbelievable.”
City defeated Albion 3-0 on Wednesday 31 January 2018 to move 15 points clear of the chasing pack as they eyed a first Premier League title under Guardiola.
Goals from Fernandinho, Kevin De Bruyne and Sergio Aguero did the damage as the Blues controlled the game from start to finish in a hugely impressive display.
City’s ‘Centurions’ would go on to lift the Premier League trophy with a record 100 points, 19 points clear of runners-up Manchester United.
