Aymeric Laporte stresses that total focus and concentration is key to success in cup finals as we look ahead to Saturday’s Wembley encounter with Manchester United.

Talking as part of his ‘Laporte’s Finals’ feature for City Studios, the defender says you should treat every moment as if it was ‘the most important thing in your life right now’.

He told us: “We all dream of that moment since we were children, since we were born.

“It’s just to enjoy it, try to be focused throughout the whole game because every single pass, moment, action is the most important thing in your life right now. Let’s do it.”

Laporte was elated to win the Premier League for the fifth time in his career and celebrate that triumph on the pitch at the conclusion of our win over Chelsea.

But he stressed that a cup final is a one-off game and victory is about ensuring that particular afternoon is the ‘right day’ for your team.

He added: “Football is not mathematics – because you are the best, you win all the time.

“There are other sports where that happens – if you are the best, you are the best.

“But in football, if you have the right day or the good day or good mood in that moment, it’s better for you.

“If you have the wrong day, as has happened through the years, there are one or two days where you miss out, you are not happy with the result at the end.

“But if we are focused as we have been for the last three months, we don’t have to be scared.”
