City twice came from behind to earn a draw in the 90 minutes before a penalty shootout between two much-changed sides went the way of the Catalans.
However, Pep Guardiola will have plenty of reasons to be encouraged by what he saw from his young side with City on top for much of the night and playing some very attractive football.
On a stormy night in Florida, kick-off was originally delayed by over an hour due to lightning in the local area.
Barcelona 2-2 City | Match report
Once the game did get going, it was well worth the wait for all 63,000 in attendance - with the majority wearing City colours.
Barcelona’s opener came against the run of play, with striker Pau Victor released through and firing under Ederson after City had pressed for the first of the night.
Nico O’Reilly levelled up as half-time approached, latching on to Josko Gvardiol‘s exquisite pass and hitting on the turn.
We couldn’t hold on until the break though, as Pablo Torre shifted the ball on the edge of the box and fired across Ederson and inside the far post.
Jack Grealish grabbed the equaliser in the second period following a burst of pace from Mateo Kovacic in midfield that turned defence into attack. Our No.10 received the ball on the edge of the box, ran at goal and hit high into the net.
Penalties followed the final whistle but the result was immaterial by that point after a promising night’s work for the young City side.
