Gabriel Martinelli’s late deflected strike secured the three points for Mikel Arteta’s side at the Emirates Stadium.
Bernardo, who played the entire 90 minutes in London, was frustrated with the manner of the defeat, but believes the team have plenty of room for improvement.
“A bit disappointed and frustrated because of the way it happened with a deflection. But that is football. It’s part of the game,” he said.

“We need to try to improve in the areas where we can. Especially in the second half we lacked a bit of intensity.
“Overall, it was a game that could have gone both ways. We need to try to improve and to get better in the future and win games.
“Second half they pressed us higher. If they do that, then we also have to do that and put them under pressure.
“We relaxed a bit in my opinion. That was my feeling on the pitch. We need to get better next time and try to improve.
“We need to rest mentally and physically to be ready for the next games because they are going to be tough, and improve in the areas where we can improve like last season.
“We will try to come back stronger from the international break. It’s not the end of the world. We have been in much worse positions.
“We need to try and come back from these two defeats in a row in the Premier League and come back to the top where I think we belong.”
The Portuguese also spoke about the defensive midfield position in which he was deployed in by Pep Guardiola.
