Bernardo Silva expressed his frustration after being forced to settle for a 2-2 Champions League draw with AS Monaco, but believes there were plenty of positives to take from the performance.

Erling Haaland struck twice in seven first-half touches, with a sensational strike from Monaco’s Jordan Teze sandwiched in between.

We threatened a third following the interval as Tijjani Reijnders struck the bar, but late drama saw the hosts awarded a penalty following a lengthy VAR check for a high boot from Nico, which Eric Dier converted in the 90th minute.

The result means we have one win and one draw from our opening two League Phase fixtures and Club-captain Bernardo believes the team can emerge from the draw with plenty to be positive about.

“Well, [it was] a difficult game. We had some good moments,” he said in his interview after the game.

“We played some really good football and we controlled the game for most of the 90 minutes. Obviously we still have things to improve.

“Overall, I think it was not a bad performance. Of course we need to be better at some things. In a moment where I felt the team was quite well, controlling the result and controlling the game, is when we conceded the second.

“So it’s a bit frustrating to get out of here with just one point. It felt like we played okay.”

The Portuguese also spoke about the tough test presented to us by the Ligue 1 outfit.
