Bernardo Silva says Phil Foden and Jack Grealish had labelled him a ‘tap in merchant’ prior to his brilliant strikes against Watford and Aston Villa.

The Portuguese midfielder revealed his two team-mates had been joking about the quality of his goals when he sat down to review his recent highlights after being named Etihad Player of the Month for November.

Bernardo has hit the back of the net seven times this season, including a close-range finish against Everton last month, though he proved he has an eye for the spectacular with a sensational strike in Manchester City’s 2-1 win over Aston Villa.

The 27-year-old has been in inspired form this term and it’s been recognised by the fans, with City’s No.20 becoming the first player to win three consecutive Etihad Player of the Month awards.

“It’s an honour,” he said of the achievement. “I guess it is not easy. I am happy.

“I think these awards from our fans are the most important ones because they watch all the games. I am very happy they enjoy what I am doing.”
