Bernardo Silva says he's delighted to be back in Monaco for this week's Champions League clash with the Ligue 1 side.

The Portuguese playmaker spent three years at the Stade Louis II between 2014 and 2017 as he first made his mark on senior football at the highest level.

That period included a spectacular 2016/17 campaign that saw Monaco win the French top tier and reach the semi-finals of the Champions League.

City’s travelling squad confirmed

Many City fans were first alerted to Bernardo’s talents that season in a jaw-dropping display for Monaco at the Etihad at the Round of 16 stage of the competition.

Now in his eighth season at City, this will be the first time he has come up against his former side and our captain can’t wait.

“It feels great,” he said.

“I was here for three seasons and I have great memories.

“This club gave me the opportunity to play at a high level for the first time and I am really happy to be here.

“It was unbelievable to beat a team like City and we did well in all competitions.

“We won the French league, reached the semi-finals of the Champions League. It was a young team with a lot of energy to show themselves to the world.
