Our German engineer turns 31 today and celebrated in style on Saturday evening with a goal and another fine display, as he returned to the starting XI in our 4-1 triumph at Brighton and Hove Albion.
Speaking to mancity.com after the game, the midfielder reflected on the manner of victory, his personal form and fitness and Phil Foden’s ‘amazing’ influence, and shared a message of support for City fan Guido De Pauw.
Having missed a chunk of the 2021/22 season already with injury, Gundogan‘s return has provided a major boost. Just take a look at his best moments from last season’s Premier League title-winning campaign.
It was an outstanding season for 31-year-old, whose impressive form in front of goal helped Pep Guardiola’s side claim a third title in four years.
Gundogan scored 17 times and provided five assists in 46 games in all competitions, ending the campaign as City’s top scorer.
The 30-year-old produced a superb run of performances as the league’s in-form player midway through the season, scoring 11 goals in 12 games, including memorable doubles in back-to-back victories over Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur.
Such was his impact, his efforts were recognised by his fellow professionals as he was named in the PFA Team of the Year for the first time.
