Pep Guardiola wasn’t surprised by Ferran Torres’ hat-trick against Newcastle United or by the quality of the goals.

Torres deservedly stole the headlines on Friday evening as City beat the Magpies 4-3 in an enthralling encounter.

All three of his goals were excellent improvisations, suggesting the 21 year-old is a natural finisher.

But Pep revealed he has seen it many times before in training, so he wasn’t surprised at all.

“The first goal was so nice, because it was a difficult execution,” said Pep.

“It took skill and talent and action. Ferran has always had the ability and showed in training.

“He is a good finisher, has pace and quality and decision making is always good.

“We have three games left for the end of season. We use him in that position because in a long period of season Gabriel and Sergio were injured.

“Some games we need a proper striker and we use him and he did well.

“His position is a winger, of course, but it’s an alternative. That’s all.

“Phil Foden can play on the wing and Joao Cancelo can play both sides and in the middle.

“We have players who can play in different positions and Ferran is one of them.”
