Raheem Sterling says he is delighted to have immediately hit goalscoring form since the Premier League season resumed.

The England winger completed an impressive hat-trick in our 5-0 win over Brighton, taking his Premier League tally up to 17 for the season in the process.

And Sterling, who has now scored four goals in the space of four days, was clearly made up to see his own personal purple patch continue, as well as with how the team performed at the Amex.

He said: “It’s good to be back, being in lockdown that was the only thing I was thinking about; having that scoring feeling again and to start a good run!

“We’ve been a bit disappointed this season with some of the games we’ve had because we’ve had chances.

“(But) it was another game where we took them and when we take our chances we’re frightening.”

Pep Guardiola stressed the importance of rotation ahead of our clash with the Seagulls given our continued pursuit of FA Cup and Champions League glory.

And Sterling believes the whole squad being involved is paying dividends on the field.

“That’s always something great to have in the team. You don’t want players to be comfortable, you want players on their toes,” he reflected.

“And that’s credit to the manager. He keeps everyone on their toes and players have to work for their position and work to have their place in the starting eleven.”

With our FA Cup semi-final clash with Arsenal on the horizon, as well as the second leg of our Champions League Last 16 tie with Real Madrid, there’s plenty for the players to look forward to.

But despite impressive performances against Newcastle and Brighton, Sterling insists he and the players will not be resting on their laurels.

“That’s always been the mentality since we’ve got back,” he said.

“We know we have to get back up to scratch and get into form because we have an important run in to the end of the season and we know we’ve got some massive games coming up.

“We just need to continue, finish the Premier League strong and hopefully finish in a few more competitions.”
