City booked a place in the FA Cup quarter-finals with a 3-0 win over Bristol City.
With Ashton Gate bouncing, the Championship’s in-form side were looking to cause a major upset.
But City have been one of the FA Cup’s best teams in recent years and only Chelsea had won more ties during the Pep Guardiola era - 27 to City’s 26.
In this, the first meeting between the sides in this competition, City struck early through Phil Foden on seven minutes.
The home side, roared on by a capacity crowd, fought hard throughout but Foden‘s second on 71 minutes settled the tie, with Kevin De Bruyne adding a superb late third from 25 yards.
