City in the Community is delighted to be celebrating its first ever Speak Week, a campaign to champion the voices of our participants.

CITC understands the importance in having a culture of listening to our participants and hearing their voices.

We want people who participate in our programmes to feel valued, and we encourage them to #SpeakUpSpeakOut when they are involved in CITC activities to help develop and strengthen our community practices.

To mark Speak Week, the team surveyed CITC participants to find out just how confident they feel when taking part in sessions.

We received 629 responses across all programmes, with 99% saying they feel safe at CITC, 98% saying they enjoy our activities, and 97% feel they are listened to while at our sessions.

Deborah Glynn, Safeguarding Officer of CITC, said: “At CITC, we actively listen to our participants and we value their feelings, thoughts, views and opinions. That’s why we’re thrilled to be holding our first ever Speak Week!

“Going forward, our coaches are going to be wearing our #SpeakUpSpeakOut badges at our sessions, and we hope this will help to encourage our participants to voice their feelings.”

Prince, a CITC Kicks participant, said: “I listen to my CITC coaches because they help me with my football. But I also feel listened to in sessions, which is important as it gives me confidence to ask questions.”

CITC Young Leader, Chiara, added: “Meeting new people at CITC has improved my confidence massively, making me become a more confident young leader and even improving my social and coaching skills.”

CITC’s Speak Week will take place between Monday 22nd and Sunday 28th March 2021. Be sure to keep an eye out on CITC’s social media channels for updates throughout the week
