Manchester City’s charity, City in the Community (CITC), has launched a new promotional video for its secondary school programme, City Inspires.

The short film features participants, school staff and CITC coaches, who all share insights into how the course aims to build confidence and form positive relationships with education.

Partnered with the Premier League, and delivered in secondary schools, SEND settings and pupil referral units across Greater Manchester, City Inspires is an education programme which uses the appeal of Manchester City and the Premier League to work with groups of secondary school learners who are at risk of not reaching their potential and support them as they move through the education system.

City Inspires aims to provide students with the confidence, resilience and skills to succeed as they progress into early adulthood.

Liam Hodkinson, Pastoral Deputy Head of Year Seven at Oasis Leesbrook, commented on the impact he’s seen the programme have on the students, saying: “The work that they [CITC] have done in Leesbrook has been huge.

“There’re a lot of students that will struggle to engage with lessons, in their current form, but the Inspires programme has given them a way to learn and compete in sports activities.

“It has given them something that they are incredibly interested in.”

Learners access one day a week with City in the Community, within the school environment.

During the 2024/2025 academic year CITC delivered 850 sessions to 345 unique participants.

Sitting under CITC’s Healthy Futures pillar, the course is designed to engage and inspire young people by providing the qualifications and skills required to progress into further education, employment and training.

With thanks to the Premier League Foundation and Emar for supporting City in the Community’s delivery of the programme.
