The short film features CITC staff, who share insights into how the sessions provides physical activity sessions for children aged between two and five years old.
City Play is a bespoke Early Years programme, with each session themed and delivered in a fun, engaging and inclusive environment.
Sessions are created to support a child’s physical development and progressive fundamental movement skill development, through a 38-week programme delivered throughout the academic year.
One teacher, from Tiddlywinks Crumpsall, commented on the impact they’ve seen the session having on the young pupils, saying: “City Play has given the children an opportunity to play outside.
“A lot of our participants live in flats with their families, so they don’t have a lot of outdoor space to run around.”
Supported by the Premier League, the sessions reflect the seven learning areas of the EYFS framework and are made up of 45-60 minutes of moderate to vigorous physical activity per group, contributing to the nationally recognised three hours of physical activity per day.
Another teacher from Rosehill Methodist said: “We have a great two-way partnership between the school and City in the Community.
“Parents and kids are talking about City Play at home in the evenings and some now even go to matches together.”
During the 2024/2025 academic year, City in the community engaged with 2,390 unique participants across 3,877 sessions.
Sitting under CITC’s Healthy People pillar, the sessions centre on physical activity and wellbeing.
With thanks to the Premier League Foundation and Players Fund for supporting City in the Community’s delivery of the programme.
