Manchester City’s Charity, City in the Community (CITC), hosted this year’s Premier League Kicks Cup Regional Tournament, welcoming community organisations from across the North West of England.

The tournament takes place each year, giving young people who attend Premier League Kicks (City Kicks) sessions the chance to connect with other clubs and participants through football.

This year, seven clubs attended the event at the City Football Academy, where they represented each of their football club charities.

CITC had two teams representing them in the tournament, a girls’ and a mixed team, with the girls’ team winning the Fair Play award for their sportsmanship throughout the day.

City Kicks participant, Brooke, reflected on their time at the competition, saying: “I think today has been a really good opportunity to meet other teams and see how they play.

“It’s also just a good way to socialise with other people that maybe you haven’t met before, I’ve really enjoyed it.”

After a day of friendly competition, Manchester United Foundation were named the winners, with Foundation92, and Oldham Athletic Community Trust taking second and third place.

All three of these teams will now go onto represent their club at the Kicks Cup final later this year.

Aside from the tournament, CITC also hosted workshops which focused on mental health and wellbeing, providing participants with advice on how to look after their mental health.

Community Outreach Manager, Kimoni Bell, described why events like this are so important for participants across the North West.

She said: “The energy and the vibe today was amazing.

“Days like this are so important for the participants because it gives them an insight into what it’s like in playing a real football tournament.

“All the children have loved it, it gets their competitive and resilient side out, and it also shows that they are able and capable to participate in such big events like this.”

Sitting under CITC’s Healthy Communities pillar, the City Kicks programme aims to encourage participants to socialise and take part in football activities.

During the 2024/2025 season, City Kicks programme delivered 1,380 hours of sessions to 2,705 participants, giving each of them an average of 19 hours contact time.
