City in the Community’s popular free summer football sessions across Manchester took on even greater importance this summer.

As has been the case for many years during the school holidays, CITC have been running free football coaching sessions for young people in parks across the city over the summer break.

In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, CITC wanted to ensure that youngsters still had a way to keep active and socialise in a safe and fun way, particularly given how many of them had been out of school for months and unable to see friends.

All sessions were specially adapted to adhere to social distancing and other government guidelines.

And, as with the past couple of years, CITC also offered free healthy snacks for children at the session, this summer supported by Club partner, Nestle, who provided food and bottled water for participants.

“It was really important for us to be out in the community in a way that was safe but also got these young people out, seeing their friends and taking part in physical activity,” said Martin Ingham-Griffith, CITC’S Community Outreach Manager.

CITC are grateful to all partners who have supported this project during July and August, along with Manchester City Council who helped CITC staff engage with hundreds of young people and get them back playing football with their friends in a safe environment.

As our video proves, the summer sessions have been a huge hit with our young participants!

City in the Community deliver free football sessions all year round including our soccer schools during school holiday period.
