Manchester City’s Charity, City in the Community (CITC), hosted this year’s Premier League Primary Stars National Girls Football Tournament, welcoming schools from across the North West of England to the City Football Academy.

The tournament is one of the competition elements of the charity’s Premier League Primary Stars programme and gives primary school girls the opportunity to compete, connect and celebrate football.

This year, 15 schools attended City Football Academy, all representing different football club charities from across the region.

After a tough day of competition, it was Accrington Stanley Community Trust who took the win with Stockport County Community Trust and Huddersfield Town Foundation coming in second and third place.

All three teams will progress to the final later this year.
City in the Community was represented by Holy Trinity C of E Primary School.

Reflecting on the day, one student said:  “It has been super fun and I’m so glad to be representing City in the Community, it’s been a privilege to be here.”

CITC Primary and Disability Schools Manager, Lucy Gaskell-Milward, added: “It’s been amazing to have the girls come down to City Football Academy and give them the opportunity to get involved in this Premier League Event.

“We have schools from across the North West here today, so it gives all the girls the chance to play against teams they never would have before and just enjoy themselves in this amazing environment.

“Holy Trinity C of E Primary were here today representing CITC after coming runner-up in the first round of competition against other local schools.

“They made it all the way to the semi-finals which was great, and we are really proud of all their hard work and effort.”

The Premier League Primary Stars National Girls’ Football Tournament is part of the Premier League’s commitment to providing better accessibility and more inclusivity for young female players and enhancing player development from grassroots to the professional game.

The Premier League Primary Stars programme is delivered in CITC partner schools across Greater Manchester engaging pupils and teachers to help primary school children stay active.

During the sessions, the coaches deliver national curriculum PE lessons, extra-curricular activities, targeted interventions, educational workshops and more.

With thanks to the Premier League Foundation for funding the programme.
