Seven students from across CITC’s City Degree, City BTEC, City Careers and 93:20 programmes sat down at Coop Live’s Canalside Café, where they reflected on their time with the charity.
Alice, a City BTEC participant, described how the CITC coaches provide her with the support she needs during her time on the programme.
She said: “I saw how the coaches here changed people’s lives, not just within football, but with everything in their lives.
“My little brother has been coming the City in the Community since he was younger, and when I came to the sessions, I could see the work they did with him.
“Seeing them do that made me realise this is something I definitely want to do with my future.”
City Degree participant and part-time coach, Lydia, said her time on the course has helped her develop into the person she is today, adding: “The coaches here are so supportive, they provide you with so much, and they make you more resilient and make you believe you can do it.
“The fact that I now have a job here coaching is brilliant as before I don’t think I would have ever put myself forward for the role, never mind get it.”
All four of the CITC programmes sit under CITC’s Healthy Futures pillar, which aims to create education pathways and support employability by providing qualifications and skills required to progress into further education, employment and training.
