Aymeric Laporte’s glancing header eight minutes from time was enough to earn City a deserved win over Tottenham Hotspur.
Pep Guardiola’s men had enjoyed the vast majority of the play in front of the 8,000 supporters in attendance, with Raheem Sterling and Phil Foden going close in the first half.
The final 45 followed a similar pattern, with Riyad Mahrez forcing a particularly impressive diving save from Hugo Lloris to keep the scores level with 15 to play.
But Laporte’s timely intervention proved to be the difference, as he rose highest to nod City towards an eighth League Cup triumph, and move us level with Liverpool as the most successful side in the competition’s history in the process.
