It was a very satisfying evening’s work for Pep Guardiola’s men with the victory ensuring we’re through to the knockout phase of the competition for an 11th successive season.
It was also our 100th win in major European competitions and extended our unbeaten run in Europe to 18 matches – a new record for English sides.
The result was never really in doubt as the Blues dominated from first minute to last in front of an expectant 51,049 fans at the Etihad.
CITY 3-0 YOUNG BOYS | Match report
Erling Haaland opened the scoring on 33 minutes, burying a spot-kick that had been earned when Matheus Nunes was upended in the box.
It got better for the current UCL holders when Phil Foden produced a delicious finish from the right channel on the stroke of half-time.
Haaland got his second on 51 minutes, blasting home a stunning left-foot effort.
Sandro Lauper got his marching orders moments later but, despite fairly relentless pressure for the rest of the half, City couldn’t add to our tally.
But we didn’t need to with an impressive three point haul already guaranteed.
