A Stevan Jovetic brace and further strike from Sergio Aguero was enough to earn City all three points in our first home match of the season.
The Serbian pounced on a loose ball to smash home the game’s opening goal, and his first in the Premier League, before the break.
And Jovetic would double his tally before the hour when he finished off an impressive team move to put City in the driving seat.
Substitute Aguero then put the result beyond doubt when he caught out Liverpool stopper Simon Mignolet with a clinical close-range finish moments after being introduced to the action.
An unfortunate own goal from Pablo Zabaleta, after Joe Hart had saved Rickie Lambert’s initial effort, got Liverpool on the scoresheet, but did little to dampen a dominant display at the Etihad Stadium.
