Pep Guardiola says putting boyhood support to one side is important on Manchester derby day.

The boss says the fact that is Manchester United should not change the way the game is approached – particularly for the likes of Phil Foden who was a City fan before he played for the Club.

Guardiola admits he likes the fact that some of his younger stars were supporters first, but says focusing on beating the opposition – whoever it is – is all that matters, even in a game where local pride is at stake.

“Of course, it’s nice,” said Pep.

“Phil is a City fan. It’s important. Not just for the game, the day before and after they have to behave as players for Manchester City.

“Focus on what you have to do on the pitch.

“Just to be a Manchester City player doesn’t mean you are going to play good or bad.

“For Phil, if he can beat United and win the Premier League as he has already at such a young age, this is important.”
