City were looking to make it three wins from four in the league phase of this season’s UCL.
Dortmund started brightly, but once the Blues clicked into gear, it was always going to be a long night for the Bundesliga giants.
A delightful opening goal from Phil Foden on 22 minutes was quickly followed by a thumping finish from Erling Haaland seven minutes later.
Foden wrapped up the victory before the hour-mark with another excellent strike, and though Dortmund pulled one back through Anton on 72, Rayan Cherki had the final say in added time to make it 4-1.
