On this day in 2020 Manchester City cruised to a 4-1 victory over Arsenal to reach the semi finals of the 2020-21 Carabao Cup.

Pep Guardiola’s side, who would go onto successfully retain the trophy the following April, made a flying start when the unmarked Gabriel Jesus headed home Oleksandr Zincehnko’s cross in the third minute.

Alexandre Lacazette met Gabriel Martinelli’s superb ball to restore parity before the break, but two quickfire second half goals set City on course for victory.

Riyad Mahrez got the visitors back in front after Alex Runarsson allowed his free-kick to squirm through his grasp and, five minutes later, Phil Foden added a third with a deft chip over the Arsenal goalkeeper.

Foden then turned provider, delivering an inviting cross for Aymeric Laporte to head in a fourth.
