The Argentine’s history-making efforts formed part of a ruthless City performance.

Riyad Mahrez fired City into a two-goal lead, opening the scoring with a mazy run and shot and doubling our advantage with an emphatic strike after Villa failed to clear their lines.

Aguero rifled a 20-yard effort into the top corner for the third and Gabriel Jesus tapped in from Kevin De Bruyne’s superb cross to ensure we went in four goals to the good at half-time.

David Silva teed up Aguero for his second, which saw him surpass Thierry Henry as the all-time leading overseas goalscorer in the Premier League with a precise finish and he broke Alan Shearer’s hat-trick record when he crashed a fierce drive past Orjan Nyland to wrap up the three points.

Anwar El Ghazi netted a stoppage time consolation from the penalty spot.
